Some of my favorite artwork isn’t necessarily the most complicated. It’s the kind that makes you remember something.
It could be a place you haven’t seen in years, an old car, a building, a ship, or just a scene that feels familiar even if you can’t immediately explain why.
That’s something I keep coming back to with the designs I like. I don’t just want somebody to look at a piece and say it has a lot of detail. I’d rather they look at it and have it remind them of something.
The interesting part is that the same image can mean something completely different to two people. One person sees a place they visited with their family. Somebody else notices a small detail that reminds them of something from when they were younger.
You can’t really control that, and I don’t think you should try to.
Sometimes giving somebody enough of a story to start with is better than trying to tell them exactly what they’re supposed to feel.
