It’s been about six months since I started Crafted Runes Studio, and one thing I didn’t expect is how much making things would change the way I look at other things.
I notice details now that I probably would have ignored before. I look at the edge of something, the texture of a surface, the contrast between two areas or the way light is hitting it.
I’ll see a sign, a piece of artwork or even an ordinary object and start thinking about why one part works and another part doesn’t.
Running the business has changed that even more because now I’m not only thinking about whether I like something. I’m thinking about how it’s going to be made, how long it takes, what material it belongs on, how it will look on a table and whether anybody besides me is going to connect with it.
Six months isn’t a long time. There’s still a lot I don’t know, and I’m reminded of that pretty regularly.
But I definitely don’t look at things the same way I did when I started. I’m curious to see what another six months changes.
