The Carriage Beyond the Bridge

Description

A two-horse carriage climbs the stepped stone bridge while an ornate lamp marks the road. A castle waits on the hill with its towers reduced to a dark silhouette. Birds cross the gap between carriage and keep, and the crescent moon leaves much of the route hidden. Each turn of the wheels feels like a choice that will be difficult to undo. We cannot see the passengers or know why they are going. They might be expected guests, unwilling visitors, or the last people to answer an invitation everyone else ignored. The night remains beautiful even as the unanswered door draws closer.
