Description

Cuba, Carried Forward brings together the kinds of details that survive inside family stories: coffee branches, cigars, playing cards, palms, tools, flowers, and the outline of public buildings remembered from another time. No single symbol can explain a country, and the medallion does not ask one to. Instead, it offers familiar fragments that different families may read differently. One person may think of el campo, another of a café table, an old photograph, or a relative who always began a story with “back in Cuba.” The name above them all keeps those memories connected even when the people carrying them have built lives somewhere else.
