Bear Above the Northern Lake

Description

A bear’s head fills the upper scene while a jagged ridge and reflective lake extend below. Pines line the banks, birds cross the distance, and a small flowering plant near the rocks provides an unexpectedly delicate detail. The bear and the valley belong to one another; neither is scenery for the other. The bear seems formed from the same cold air, stone, and forest it watches. A wilderness trip or rare wildlife sighting can return here, along with the humbling sense of being watched in a place that does not belong to us. Its strength comes from presence, not threat: a reminder that the valley is inhabited whether people arrive or not.
