Beacon Below the Broken Bow

Description

A single diver hovers near a large wrecked ship, aiming a narrow flashlight beam across the broken hull while masts fade into the water behind it. Scattered timbers and rock lie below, suggesting years of collapse and current. Discovery stays intimate here, limited to the small section of history the diver can illuminate at one time. A shipwreck can be vast, but underwater it is encountered one illuminated section at a time. The diver cannot see the whole history at once, and neither can the viewer. That limitation gives the image its tension. The light may reveal an entrance, a warning, or nothing more than weathered wood, yet the darkness surrounding it keeps the unanswered parts of the vessel—and the lives once aboard—close at hand.
