Centered and strictly symmetrical, a towering citadel dominates the composition as a dense black silhouette that climbs from stepped terraces to a single central spire. Behind the structure a brilliant radial halo fans outward into textured, crosshatched clouds, creating an intense backlight that reduces the fortress to dramatic vertical masses and fine vertical hatch marks; the top spire aligns with a concentrated beam of light and a stylized sun emblem at the arch apex.

The foreground presents steep, craggy cliffs that slope inward toward a mist-filled valley, the rocky faces articulated with heavy diagonal hatching and sharp highlights. A low band of translucent mist partially obscures the citadel’s lowest tiers, separating foreground from middle-ground and enhancing the sense of layered depth without any human presence.
