Lantern and Lightning
$49.99
The mariner raises hook and lantern as lightning splits the storm, while something reptilian rises from the deck below.
Description
A tricorn-hatted mariner stands on deck with a hook raised and lantern burning beside him. Lightning tears through the clouds, waves strike the ship, and a reptilian head appears near his feet. A rope frame, skull-and-crossbones, and anchor give the portrait the form of an old seafaring legend. The figure meets danger with theatrical confidence. The lantern is almost absurdly small against the storm, yet it remains a human point of control amid weather and creature. It could be a warning, a boast, or a tale improved after years of retelling. Either way, the mariner seems determined to survive long enough to tell it himself.
