Night Passage to the Castle

Description

I wanted to hold a single ordinary instant — parents and child walking together — and make it feel like the doorway to something larger. The composition uses the tram rails, reflected lights, and the castle’s radiating beams to pull that family silhouette into the center of a cinematic night scene.

The piece is rendered in a dense, engraving-like monochrome where storefront lights, lanterns, balloons, and the wet cobbles provide the only warmth against the dark sky. The hanging plaque above the promenade frames the moment as a threshold between the everyday and the imagined.
